Wines, Malts and Ales
We serve an extensive and diverse range of wines, malts and ales.
Wines
Click here to see the menu detailing our extensive range of wines. We have seven main house wines – three reds, three whites & one rose which are served by the glass (small and large) or bottle. The remaining 24 bottles are a mixture of reds, whites, roses and sparkling.
The menu list is designed to be printed out as a booklet, which as an ‘extra treat’ has an introduction to the different red and white grapes available.
Wine Training at the Reverie
We believe that knowledgeable staff makes for a pleasant experience for our customers. Being recomended the best wine to accompany your meal is paramount to your enjoyment we feel. Therefore all staff are trained by our wine supplier Great Grog at least 4 times a year. Tasting notes are provided and staff are expected to taste and try to identify the different characteristics of each wine. Furthermore two staff members are trained to WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Introductory level, one to WSET Intermediate level and our bar manager is currently enrolled on the WSET Advanced course (level 3).
Enjoy, learn and then sip some delicious wines at Reverie.
Malts
As of January 2011 we have 81 different malt whiskies on offer! As with the wines we have produced a booklet where each whisky has been grouped under their appropriate region accompanied with a short description. Click here and step into the moors of Scotland (the printout might be a bit strange – call us if you want to know how to print it as a booklet 0131 667 8870)
Malt Training at the Reverie
We take our whisky drinking seriously at the Reverie. All of our staff are trained to provide you with as much information as possible to enable you to choose your preferred tipple. Some people prefer the peaty tones of Lagavulin of Islay, while others drift on the honey tones of a Dalwhinnie from Speyside. Our staff our trained by expert whisky trainers on a half yearly basis to be able to tell you the difference between them. We also have a yearly outing to the local Edinburgh distillery to allow staff to see the whisky being produced and to understand the distillation process from barley to bottle.
Ales
We have three handpumps at Reverie providing you with Deuchars IPA, Caledonian 80/-’s and an ever changing guest beer brewed by a local brewery. New to ales? Then ask our staff for a sample of each.
We take such pride in our ales that we are yearly accredited with Cask Marque (www.cask-marque.co.uk) which is ‘the sign of a good pint’. The last time we were examined we received 100% for temperature control, appearance, aroma and taste - you can’t say fairer than that!
Cask Training at the Reverie
We keep our cellar in tip-top condition. Lines are cleaned by experienced bar supervisors on a weekly basis. Five staff members have been accedited with the ‘Beer Cellar management’ from Scottish & Newcastle (now Heineken).
